Default Oil starvation

Hey guys.

My oil light was on since I bought the car about 2 weeks ago. I did an oil change on it early this week but the oil light would still come on in the cold mornings for about 2-3 minutes then I would see it all day long. So last night I changed the oil pressure switch but no luck, same thing happens this morning, oh well I think, it's been doing since day 1! So I get on the highway as usual and 5 minutes later, bahhhhhhhhhh, engine dies. I get the car towed to the shop I work at and start looking at what happened. Engine cranks but no fire, start looking at the ignition distributor and its all good. I start to turn the crank with my ratchet to align the pistons and stuff to do a leakdown test but man it's easy! Decide to pull the valve cover to look at what I fear the most... Blown timing belt! So I decide to pull the head, first thing I remove is the exhaust cam and then bam, here is what I got(pics at the bottom). So I guess my oil pump decided to pack it in and a cam support got dry. It half seized and ripped the timing belt in two. So I stoped there, decided to look for a head. Good thing a guy in my own city just puted one for sale at the same time. So I went and bought it. So tomorrow, i'll pull the head out, look at the pistons, remove the pan and look for rod bearings that could be damaged etc. Hopefully everything will be fine and then slap the new head on and keep on going with the project!

Pics for kicks!
Cheers!

ny car did the same exact thing (d15b7). oil light came on because it burned oil. drove to work and the light was not on so i figured f#ck it. drove 30 miles and ping, thud bang boom engine died.got home and took the valve cover apart to find that the cam was actually broken in half. but I didnt care because the motor burned oil and it was non vtec so it gave me an opportunity to do a d16z6 swap

not to sound like a dick. but honda spent money to put an oil light on for a reason, why people ignore it THE FIRST TIME it comes on is just beyond me.

Yeah, that's why they call it the idiot light. Only an idiot would keep driving with it on

Those oil lights on the dash are a life saver. I blew the oil cooler oring on my prelude last winter, only indication I got that there was a problem was the intermittent blink(like 2 blinks) of the oil light then it went steady on I had the motor shut down right as the light went steady. Long story short, replaced the oring refilled the oil and its been going strong ever since, no signs of damage through all 10 events of solo2 this past summer

The lights on the dash werent put there for the pretty colors they make when lit

Problem solved, I just swapped out the complete engine. I kept the old one and will be rebuilding it slowly as strong as possible.

Judging from your attitude in these posts....are you somehow related to Bill Gates?

Spare some change?
