Default Oh my goodness look!!

Ok there's nothing big to look at but I just wanted your attention, anyway.
I have two questions in this topic.

Everyone wants to use as less gas as possible(under regular city driving). Is shifting at an RPM too low any bad? When do you guys shift?

Second question, yes I'm a noobie but anyway, I dont understand "grounding" things. Like ground your motor, or ground a wire for a guage etc. Can you guys explain that to me?

Thanks.

driving an auto i usually give the car enough gas to move it at a descent pace usually letting it shift around 2K - 2.5K ig it is really slow going the tranny wants to shift at 1.5K

grounding means to have a good solit connection between the chassis and what ever else is using electicity such as your radio ECM engine etc...usually most grounds are attached with copper bolts to ensure a solid connection and conductive path.

my friend tells me that if you drive at a low RPM you could bend your valves...but im sure he was talkin about if you had large cams...

For any electrical thing* to work you need a power source and somthing electrical...power souce has a *Positive and a Negative*...for your electrical thing to work you need your power source to make a *complete circuit* around your electronic device...Negative (from power souce)..electrical thingee..Positive (back to power source)...in the cars case.."ground" is actually the "Negative"..it being so because the metal chassis is connected directly to the Negative battery termanal...and its a lot easier to run 1 wire to "ground" (in the back of the car..when the battery is in front) and another to a switch in the front...rather than to run both wires to the front...
Thanks.
Oh yeah...An actual "Compete Circuit" contains a *Power Source*-positive and negative, a *Load*-electrical device, and a *Switch*-whatever you may use to turn on and off it is still a switch...

I used to have an auto, and it picked up slow unless you step up to about 3k+ rpm.... how does yours pick up good or is it just a slow decent acceleration? Cuz cars always pass me by quickly when I lightly gassed and accelerated.

it actually does really well once you get above 3K below that it is decent. the only time I get on it is when getting onto I94 from lexington pkwy where I live from the light to the fwy I can get it to about 65 and that is manually changing gear letting the car redline before going to the next gear. I hate traffic in the morning as there is always some jackass trying to get in front of you to get off the FWY at the next exit.

in our state we have those stoopid traffic lights that tell you when you can get on the fwy and they give you very little runway to get the car up to speed

my neighbor was lecturing me that if you shift too low, then the oil pump is at such a low psi, that you might damage your engine. Dont know if its true, but it does maike sense to me, since oil pump runs off of the engine speed.

when I'm being conservative in my 95 CX I shift at 3k out of first and second and 2.5k out of third and forth. that seems to be border line just before it boggs down too much. most of the pull happens after 3k tho

to get the best mileage, i shift to second at 15, to third at 25, fourth at 33, fifth at 48. i don't know if those numbers are exact but i remember reading it in my owners manual. on how to get the best mileage.
