Internally OBDI, OBDIIa, and OBDIIb are all EXACTLY the same... The differences you'll see are in the connector... I know for a fact that all OBDI distributors had 2 connectors, where as some of the '96-2000 were single plug and some of them were dual... This really isn't that big of a deal as you can just cut and solder different connectors... From everything that I've seen (and I may be wrong cuz I don't work with SOHC's that much) it seems as tho all of the single connector '96+ Civic's have been DX/EX's and I've seen a few CX's online with the 2 plug connectors... Correct me if I'm wrong but I do know for a fact that there are two different styles of '96-2000 connectors...

99 Cx hatch - D16Y7: Distributor only has one plug.

I don't think 96-00 used 2 connectors for the dizzy; Kataku2K3 - Had you seen a 96-00 with 2 dizzy connectors?

Cool well that's good to know... Maybe it is year dependant but I HAVE seen some OBDII engine harnesses with 2 plug dizzy connectors (that's why I brought it up)... I actually just did an EJ's harness last week that required me to change to the single connector (which I prefer) and I've also had people on H-T show me pics before and ask questions... The only reason that I brought up the possibility of being a CX is because every DX that I've worked with has had a single dizzy connector and of all my one piece ('96-2000 Civic) engine harnesses I don't label which ones are CX and which ones are DX... Again, it shouldn't be that big of a deal, if you have to swap dizzy connectors or the plug(s) on the engine loom then just do that and you'll be fine...
