The ECU will not have a light on it, you have to refer to the yellow check engine light on the dash. On the passenger side of the vehicle, located in the same vicinity as the ecu is a wire with a plug on the end. You use a paper or wire to connect the two terminals of the that plug, which will cause the check engine light to blink in sequences of short and fast flashes. record the sequence in which it flashes, this is how you indicate what codes are being thrown. There's plenty of forums and tutorials that cover this topic.
