o2 sensor issue
what would cause my o2 sensor to go bad i replaced it 2 times..first one lasted a lil over 1 month and the second one 2 months... i noticed that when it rains alot my car bogs here n there and then the next day my cel is on for my cat ..could it be because it sucks in water threw the flex pipe from passing threw puddle of water
make sure your replacing your o2 sensor with a quality sensor and not some cheap autozone one...cheap oxygen sensors dont last very long - get an OEM sensor and be done with it
as far as your running issue...if you had a code for your cat effeciency in the past and your car sometimes "bogs" - very possible that your cat is restricting exhaust flow causing the motor to run poorly, have no power.
when an oxygen sensor goes bad, usually the ECU will run on an "open loop" fuel map - this is normally the fuel map used when the car is warming up...its a bit richer air/fuel ratio which is "safe" when the ECU isnt getting any feedback from the oxygen sensor to make necessary fuel trim adjustments...the bogging sensation your experiencing is more than likely result of this "open loop" fuel map, the motor is running a bit rich causing this bogging sensation...
The oxygen sensor was probably the original problem, it went bad - in result is the more rich open loop a/f mixture...the exhaust gasses from this open loop mixture carries unburnt fuel into the cat which eventually damaged it...
now that the cat is clogged and restricting exhaust flow, its damaging the oxygen sensor... assuming the sensor is before the cat of course - this is probably what is happening
replace the cat or eliminate it completly and get yourself a good quality o2 sensor...maybe try to return the old o2 sensor as a defect if its really not that old?
after all said and done see how your car performs in the next rainstorm, it may be a problem not related to the cat or o2 sensor...
hope this helps!
