Default NO VTEC. ........Need help asap Please.

H22 in a 92 civic CX
P28 Chipped (base tune)
Sk2 IM (no egr)

VTEC will engage, will last for about 3k RPM's then Cuts out and a cell comes on. Code 21.
Manually checked solenoid , and it clicks/engages.
Hard wired it from the solenoid to the ecu. (A4 pinout). Still will only engage for about 3k RPM's.

This car is set up to get a full tune this Sunday. I really need to fix this problem be for Saturday. Otherwise I need to cancel my appointment.

Anyother idea's???

Could be a bum tune/bad ECU. You changed/checked everything VTEC related.

Checked oil level. Dip stick marks full. (using a 5qt Morosso oilpan, if that matters).

As for the tune/ecu. We have tried a P28 & a stock P13. Both had the same results.

once we get the head back on we should go around and clean the paint off of all the grounding points just to make sure that its getting good contact, figured its worth a shot

you are missing an o-ring in the center of the head where the cam cap goes.

Check the "o" ring, and I have seen H22's with a dented oil pan not get VTEC if the pick-up is to close to pan floor. Also put a mechanical OP guage after the VTEC solenoid on the head, if it drops below 60 lbs. VTEC will stop functioning. Make sure all the rocker pins are in.
