Default No alternator

I have autocross only car I'm going to try to run without alternator.
Anyone know at what voltage things stop working, like injectors and ignition.
2002 RSX S engine and ECU.

Yea i really don't know why you wanna do that.... What if the battery goes dead?? your motor dies (with NO chance of restarting, no power for the ECU to run anything), then when that happens you lose your manifold vacuum so say byebye to your brakes.... Your deck turns off, no music.. hehehe j/k... Anyways, if for some reason you still decide to take it off, a normal alternator cranks out ~13.5-14.5VDC, that is too charge the battery and run all the electronics... so you figure as long as you are running somewhere in the 11.5-14.5VDC range you'll be fine... I don't know at exactly what voltage there is not enough power to run the ECU ect. but it's all going to be dependant upon load... Peace

honestly, I don't think you'll be having power to your car for long, your car will probobly drain the battery in a matter of min. Since taking off your alternator, you stop the ability for your car to keep re-charing the battery when powered on and when you take it off, you just keep using the battery till it's gone.

As long as it will run for 5 minutes, that will be plenty.

a 16v battery would work fine... if you use a normal 12v battery it will drop too low of a charge too soon... robbin power

This sounds kind of silly. Do people really do this, or are you being an inovator?

If you're being creative, more power to ya! Let us know how it works.

There simply is not an advantage to not running the alternator... people have tested it and determined that the charge that the alternator gives, ensuring uniform spark, outweighs the parasitic losses of it.

As for weight, its negligible. I just don't see the point--its going to be a pain in the *** as well, charging it up all the time, and any benefit you may receive is going to go right out the window if you're on a good run and your car conks out before you finish. So why risk it... all risk no benefit. And even if you do get 1-2 hp gain, its not going to make a negligible difference.

dude, your car will run for a very long time on a full battery even without an alternator, as long as you're not running any electrical accessories (radio, headlights). my alternator was bad and i drove all the way to california and back to utah by just recharging the battery. it sucked when it started to get dark out and i had to use my lights, 'cause that drains the battery real quick. i ended up having to turn off my lights and drive in the dead of night like 5 feet behind my friend's car, and i barely made it home. just giving spark to your motor doesn't take a lot of juice though.

The answer to when does it stop running, at least in my case is 8.52 volts.
I don't know if it's loss of spark or fuel.
My car has electric water pump, fuel pump, ignition and iVTEC ECU.
Started the car 6 times, ran it until it quit running. Battery voltage started at 11.50 and at the end of 32 minute with the fan cycling on and off and varying the RPM from idle to 5400 the voltage was at 8.52. I'm using a 36AH deepcycle battery and a mobile battery charger. It takes 23 minutes to get battery back to full charge.
I have remove 37 pounds from the car. When the class minimum is 1000 pounds that's a good deal.
I wouldn't recommend this to anyone running a BIG *** stereo.

Your car must be miraculous. My car lasted less than 8 minutes when my alternator belt ripped. (crank pulley was coming off)

I had my radio off, a/c off, lights off, didnt use my windows/sunroof...
