needing to know some torque specs
i have a friend who is putting his motor back together its a 98 itr. he has a chilton manuel but it does not say the torque specs for the bolts on the main bearings and the rod bearings. if anyone can help on this we would really appreciate it
Main caps you should step torque.
1st step = 22 lb*ft
2nd step = 49lb*ft (2,3,4) and 56 lb*ft (1,5)
Torque from inside-out.
For the rod bolts, it's highly recommended that you use a rod bolt stretch gauge and stretch the bolts .13mm to .15mm. If you don't care to buy a $150 stretch gauge from ARP (which is the one that I recommend using), then you can torque the rod bolts down to:
1st step = 14lb*ft
2nd step = 33lb*ft
Straight outta the Helm service manual.
