If you're converting to an external coil you wont need the spring/electrode. You'll need the coil and wire and you'll need the cap if you're not going to modify your stock cap.

I apologize. I was directly answering your question. You do not need the spring in the old cap. The MSD cap works great and even comes with mounting hardware. Just make sure when you get the external coil for the MSD that you get/use a coil with a ballast resistor with it. I used a Blaster 2 coil with mine.
wheres that chaepest place to get it or the best whatever
use the blaster SS or blaster 2 coil with it witch one is cheaper??? what one to get
and what is a ballast resistor where do i get it and what dose it do???
also i still need a rotor right??

I got mine from http:// summitracing.com just because I live by them. You would probably be better off shopping around though. I used one on my Accord and I got a new one for my H22A. They do have these really cool looking clear red ones now but they're more money for the bling...
I used the Blaster 2 coil with mine. You can get a universal chrome mounting kit from a local auto parts store. Just make sure you get part # MSD8200 . That one comes with the ballast resistor I told you to get. I bought the one without first and then I had to go all the way back to get a ballast resistor separately.

Here's a picture of the red cap. Yes you need a rotor but the stock one is what you use. A ballast resistor limits the current going to the coil. It goes in between your 12V source and the 12V (power) input on the coil. I didn't know this at first and that coil got so damn hot in a few seconds...
