ok heres the deal. i have a 00 si turbo charged, and if im racing or driving fast and shift into 3rd gear it grinds. i know that honda has had problems with there 3rd gear in b series tranny. do you think its the syncro or i need a new clutch. if it is the syncro had hard would it be to replace it myself.

 

generally when one gear grinds it is the synchro. when all grind it is usually the clutch. Before you go dropping the tranny, you might want to try some better tranny fluid like redline mtl/gm synchromesh/ honda mtf and see if it helps.

its not that hard... just buy the manual and follow the directions, i've rebuild a few already and its worth it ($250 for the synchro). better than buying a used one and finding out the synchros are bad..
