Default MSD question...

hi there
I wired in an MSD 6AL box the other day to my honda CRX turbo. I am having a few problems, and I think its cuz i rushed the installation. do I have to cut a blue and red wire located behind a black cap?? if someone who has installed an MSD to a honda (4 cylinder) n/a or turbo could confirm this for me that would be great....
thanks in advance...

My MSD'ed EF is wired like this..you disconnect the wires going to the coil inside the cap,you got a white with blue stripe that goes to white MSD box wire and a black with yellow stripe that goes to the red MSD box wire....then you take the MSD black and orange wires and wire them back up to either the coil inside the distributor or a external coil

yeah i wired it just how you said and just how the diagram on the msd website states, but there is a black cap on the side of the MSD ignition box that you can apparently pop off and cut some wires to tell the box how many cylinders your running, according to the manual i have to cut the blue wire and red wire to indicate a 4 cylinder car (CRX D16 engine).... i think just cutting the red is 8 cylinder cars and just cutting the blue is 6 cylinder cars.... anyone?

All wiring to the coil and back to the box is done, the wiring i am referring to is inside the MSD box... thanks guys

for 8 cyl you cut nothing
for 6 cyl you cut Red

I cut the wires last night and started it up quickly, sounded alright untill it cut out whilst idling about 20secs later....

Ive got more time on my hands tonight so i'll reset the ECU then i'll have a play tonight...

anyone know what happens if you start it without cutting the red and blue wires (on a 4 cyl car) cuz i did... DOH!

thanks

Should I now change the standard coil for an uprated one? and/or re-gap the spark plugs, they are at stock setting at the moment? about .28 or .30 the manual says they can be upto 0.50 apart for my compression ratio.

The car now misfires at low revs and then cuts out it was doing it before alot worse. its running a tiny bit smoother with the bigger plug gaps but i still have to keep it at about 3k rpm to avoid it cutting out..

You sure you didnt mess up the firing order when you put the wires back on?

I never took the wires off, did all the drilling/wiring in the engine bay and as far as i know you cannot put a distributor in wrongly (180 degs out). But it does indeed sound like it is mis firing...
thanks

I have checked the black/yellow wire on my honda distributor and i see a switched 12v signal. The white wire coming from the MSD box has 5v switched power. I have ordered a new coil (MSD part number 8207 suspecting that the original coil has burnt out). The car occasioanlly fires up and starts for 20secs max but im unable to keep it constant.
any thoughts/comments?

thanks
