Default MSD 6A Ignition box... Any downside?

Just wondering if the multi-spark idea has any flaws? Would this system (along with an SS coil) provide good results on a high compression motor? (above 11.8:1)

Thanks everyone... I was searching for info, but I can't really find anything technical about it.

iv'e seen alot of all motor cars, with just stock ignitions.....(ERICK'S racing)
but then again, i wouldn't mind having the MSD in hand
And it should help with high compression

holla'

im really satisfied w/ my 6a box. that mod alone raised my trap speed in the 1/8 by 3 mph. it also improved my time by .2 secs. which is impressive to me cause my drivin skills are **** hehe. the install is also a breeze. IMO it is a good base mod that will help future mods.

I would stick with the stock ignition system, I have run as high as 12.5 to 1 with no problems. The stock ignition system is very simple and reliable, there is no need to "splice" something additional into it. Your money would be better spent on something else.

quick question keith... are you saying that an ignition w/o msd is equal to an ignition system w/ msd?

I honestly didn't need mine on my Y8, but it did definately make a good deal of difference when I put turbo on my ls.

NA or FI? I had MSD 6A and the 6AL on my NA teg along with the MSD wires, Pro-Cap w/external coil and Blaster SS coil, only difference I noticed was $300 less in my wallet. Turbo and SC guys tell me they feel a difference.

In my experience (on a Honda car) that would be my opinion. I think you would be trading reliability and simplicity for any possible gain.

Hmm...

Yeah this would me going on my N/A D16Z6/Y8 motor buildup. Like I said, the compression ratio would be somewhere between 11.7:1-12.1:1. I have heard that a higher compression ratio requires more energy for the spark to jump, lowering the chance of a missfire.

Perhaps I should just get a blaster coil only? Or maybe just stick with the stock ignition...

Once again, thanks for the input.
