Machine Shop Bill
I took my engine to get some work done at the machine shop. I went to Robert H. Feaser's in Harrisburg, PA. They were very friendly and knowledgeable, not specifically on Hondas. gsr block, eagle ls crank and rods, arp all studs, bronze supertech vavle guides. The bearing chamfering was required because the welds around the rod journals are beefed up on the eagle crank.
Hope this helps people get an idea, covers everything but sleeving I think
Clean Block 85
Bore Cylinders 180
Balance Assembly 270
Mount pistons on rods 48
Align Hone Block 170
Chamfer Rod Bearings 36
Assemble Block 278
Helicoil tranny mount 48
Surface Flywheel 52
Install Guides 178
Bore head for o/s seat 135 (replace valve seat)

did i ever say overpriced means good work? dont think i did.
No comparison on prices here people. I guarantee they vary all over the country. So saying a price is too high or too low is just your opinion. And asking about money you already spent or were quoted of people that could potentially be all over the globe doesn't help you one bit.
If you think you paid or were quoted too much money perhaps a few calls to other shops might have set your mind at ease.

In this area, there are a few non-reputable machine shops, they are mainly domestic race shops. Then there are two main reputable machine shops. Don's performance, and Feaser's. I originially took the motor to Don's. It sat there for about a month withoutTh moving the block. All I wanted was a quote. They couldn't manage that for me within a months time - so I went to Feaser's. They are known for their quality, but also know to be a bit pricier. They got on the job much sooner, and were very friendly and understanding. Sure they didn't know the difference between a GSR block and an LS block. But I provided all the clearances and specs - so there was no real issue there. They typically specialize in diesel applications, but the machinist (owner) that did my machine work had a ton of experience with race applications of all sorts over the years.
I agree pricey, but worth it I feel. I suppose the true test will be when I crank it over.
Still need the swap parts for an EG - then we will see.

Also, this post is meant to be a guideline for people in the central pennsylvania area. A ton of factors are included with price. Competition plays a big factor in the price. Since there are very few machine shops with full capabilities here - there isn't much competition. But for you guys in Cali, I'm sure there's a machine shop on every corner fighting for business.
Just as I'm sure that if you went to the only machine shop in the middle of Oklahoma, they would have lower prices due to lack of business.
Let's make this into a thread of:
Where you're from, what you got done, how much you paid, and from whom.
This way there is a reference for people all over the country.

Wow thats expensive, you paid 85 to hot tank your block, and then $350 total to bore and hone the block?? Thats ridiculous for 4 cylinders
I paid $25 for a hot tank (and it was mint clean and blown every hole) and $160 for overbore and hone ANNNNNND deck .005" on all 4 cylinders
Shop around!

There is a lot of assuming here.
I have to agree with what grumblemarc said, comparing pricing from diff. parts of the county tell you nothing except the pricing is different.
I look at the OPs prices and say that he overpaid because the best shop here changes less for all of it, but then again if I go down to the coast [Vancouver] it makes it look like the shop here is giving it away.
The best way is to compare pricing in your own area, if your going by price, then compare quality of work, much more important the cost, ask previous customers, a good shop will have a good reputation, a bad shop will not, the longer a shop has been around, the better the chance is that it is a good shop.
To be clear, price is not the end all, quality of workmanship is, you do get what you pay for, there will always be a shop that will do it "cheaper", as well, maybe, maybe not. 94

call competitors and compare prices. find the one you can afford and no just the cheapest one look up reviews.
what ever we tell you is garbage to you cause your not gonna drive to my city, state, country (idk were you are) to get my price.
