Default LS trans problem

i just recently bought a a1 tranny for my ls and put it in. The problem is that i seem to only have 1,2,5 gears. it feels like its going into 3rd and 4th but it is acting like it is just in neutral. any ideas or is it a shot trans

Without tearing it apart, I would assume that it is a broken shift collar or stripped out dog teeth or maybe even a broken shift fork. You could even be having a problem with the selector mechanism that activates the shift fork, but I doubt the mechanism is the culprit doe to the fact that all of the other gears work.

Honda uses a conventional shift companion setup.

1-2 use the same shift collar and shift fork and are on the input shaft

3-4 use the same shift collar and shift fork and are on the countershaft

5-R use the same shift collar but the reverse gear is operated by a linkage mechanism activated by a second appendage off of the 5-R shift fork shaft. The reverse gear does in fact have a synchronizer located at the very outside of the the countershaft.

I would most definately say so. I can fix it for you but you would have to pay for shipping/transit and parts, I would be EXTREMELY reasonable with the labor.

Something like that would be fairly simple for me. I would not have to do any shimming or resetting of any tolerances. Pretty much pull it apart, assess the damage, order parts and reassemble. I would not cahrge any more than 100 bux as long as you pay for all of the parts and shipping.

it is just a simple part failure issue. I would think that it would be from some sort of abuse if the shift collar is the actual culprit. If the Shift fork is broken, then I would just blame it on part failure.
