Default L3 transmission problem

i took apart my tranny to change some bearings and seals...and when i put it back together i found that the shift selector was not aligned correctly with the bottom of the shift forks. The selector, when in neutral, is supposed to be aligned with 3rd and 4th gear shift fork correct? On mine...the shift selector is all the way to 1st and second gear shift fork...i don't think that is right.... what happend??? How do i find/fix the problem??

Move the shift forks/slector ring up/down the shaft until all three points at the shift piece are aligned. Then, study how the shift mechanism moves the shift piece (the rod that comes out of the transmission turns and moves in/out).

There are three different parts to align before it'll go together easily. The easiest is the shift selector (rod??) first then the shifter forks.
