low oil pressure light?
When I am in gear and moving(so load on engine) then I put into nuetral. The revs drop down to idle, and for a split sec. the "oil MIL" comes on. This is after the car is warmed up and has a normal idle speed. Any ideas? TIA

How is your oil level?? Is your oil pressure good??? You'll need to hook up a pressure tester or gauge if you don't have one already... And the last thing that is fairly common is a dented oil pan... If the pressure is good and the oil level is fine then this is what i would think your problem is... A dented oil pan makes oil getting to the pickup tube pretty tough for the pump.... If that's not the case then I would pull the oil pan and see how the pick up tube looks.... Sometimes it can get clogged up too... Latez
Yeah the dented oil pan is most likely my problem
HybridFiend (2:16 AM 1/28/2003): I only have 1300 miles on my engine
HybridFiend (2:17 AM 1/28/2003): I rebuilt it for my lab project in Auto tech class at school
HybridFiend (2:18 AM 1/28/2003): I replaced everything internally, but I am still using the old oil pan
HybridFiend (2:18 AM 1/28/2003): there is a slight dent where the oil pickup provision is on the pan

Well that's what i think the problem is... If you can toss on another and check it out... How was the sump?? did it get smashed too? If so replace it... Peace
I don't have another pan, It's such a minor dent, that's why I left it alone in the first place. Hardly noticable. This weekend I am doing a oil change, maybe I'll drop the pan and try to remove the dent via my mallet. I could post a pic, so you can see how minor this dent is.
Oh okay, well then maybe that's not your problem... I thought you were saying you had an okay size dent that may be the problem... check the sump to see if it's clogged if it's not bent or anything... Also make sure that there is clearance between it and the pan just so you know the oil is being allowed to be sucked up.... If everything seems good there then maybe your oil pump is going out... They usually can handle a lot and don't go out that often but just maybe that's it... I would test the oil pressure... That could let you know what is goin on in a little more detail... Good Luck
maybe your bearing clearance is off?
maybe you didnt replace the oil control jet o-ring?
maybe you are using a too viscous oil? what weight is it?

The bearing clearance for all journals is fine, I replaced all bearingings and plastiguaged them, This was my lab project and all of this is required. No short cuts allowed or taken.
The oil pump is a new unit.
The oil I am using is Castrol 5w-30, and I have been following the "Endyn" breakin method.
But anyway when I was driving today I took note that the rpms are dropping down to 450-500 rpm. That is why I am getting the "oil" MIL. It is only one "Flicker" of a MIL. That is why I continue to drive. I tested oil pressure today and it is within specs @ 13 psi at my current "normal" idle speed.
So the main question is why is my idle dropping down to 450-500 rpm when I put it in neutral--- after being on load. If I just neutral rev the engine it is fine.

And yeah the oil control o-ring is replaced. This was my Auto Tech Lab project. I had constant Instructor instruction, no short cuts where taken or allowed.
how is you IACV looking?
did you check it out when the manifold was off?
have you set your idle according to Helms?
the oil pressue is ok by hte sounds of it. at low idle the oil pressure will drop to perhaps below 5-7PSI (which is where the MIL switch is set to.)
so i would not stress too much about it.
if the droping idle bugs you, then i guess you should trouble shoot that (maybe in a new thead - after searching!!!)

This is what I have come to think is the problem. Yes I did disassemble the IACV when the engine was apart, I completely cleaned it, the intake manifold, everything. Intermitantly the idle will search for a idle speed. Going up down up down on and on. Then with another key cycle it goes away.

also check your Throttle Position Sensor is set properly...

Yea check the TPS... You'll want it reading 0.45VDC with the throttle plate closed... Being over that can make cause a fluctuating idle... Good Luck

Yeah, I'll have to check it out.

It also did this with the old D16 engine too. Once in a while, not as often as this B16 though.
