Louder after a TIMING BELT?!?!?!?!
I just got my timing belt replaced and put a new water pump in at the same time. I have a 1995 Civic EX with a B16A1 engine in it. So I got the timing belt and water pump (from honda) for a 94 Del Sol Vtec. I took it to a guy I know who does work on the side (he's a good guy and I'm sure he did the work right) but...all of a sudden (like from the moment I picked up the car) everything is WAAAAY louder. Like I can't tell if it's coming from the intake, or exhaust or what, but it's freakin LOUD! I also think the throttle is responding a little faster and that it has a bit more power. It's kind of hard to tell because I havn't really had a chance to be hard on the car since I got it back just last night...but I think it's got more power. I called the guy and asked him if he had done a tune up on the car, maybe advanced the timing, something like that he said no, just put in the parts, checked the timing and that it was just what it's supposed to be (17 degrees I think he said) so he left it.
When I get home tonight I'm gonna jack up the car and check the exhaust, and make sure their are no cracks or anything but can anyone think what this might be? or is it normal? (I really can't see how it would be) has anyone seen (or rather heard) of this before?
Thanks! Ben

maybe your timing was off before you got the new belt, that might account for the extra power you feel but it shouldnt effect noise levels.
This might not be the same thing but i disconnected the ECU when fitting a vtec controller a while back in my B18C, when i plugged it back in and connected up the battery again and drove it the car seemed a lot more responsive and seemed to have slightly more power, i left the vtec engagement point at 4400rpm, so the only reason i could come up with is the the ECu was clogged with codes from previous problems and even though they had been sorted out and i thought that i had reset the ecu (just disconnected the negative battery terminal) it may not have been disconnected for long enough to reset it properly, and when i had the ECU out to fit the controller, it was unplugged for about 3 hours or more.
Does anyone know how long the ECU has to be disconnected for in order to completely reset it?

sometimes the belt may be slightly stretched from heat and wear like if you have one exposed. mine used to be dead on at cams and crank. i have noticed before i changed the belt, that the cam timing is off by not even a tooth but it's a good bit off from stock. the belt was looser also. i have changed several timing belts and a couple got louder. but most people do claim it seems different because they have gotten use to the slightly off cam timing.

the exhaust/intake sound WAY louder...like i mean twice as lound, it also has an odd sound just as it hits VTEC. I've checked everything I can as far as exhaust and intake (I can't find any holes in the exhaust, and the intake is attached firmly...) I called the guy who did the work today, and he said everything should be fine. I also called some friends and bounced some idea's off people I know who know cars...and I'm starting to think that the timing belt might be off a tooth. I'll let you all know what I find out. Thanks!
