Default LOOPING IDLE, please make it go away.

Can't seem to track down my problem with the common LOOPING idle with hondas. Any fresh ideas would be great. I did do a search and didn't pull anything. Let me know.

ive tracked that problem to sooo many things its retarded. IACV, TPS, Vaccuum lines, Intake Manifold gasket, so, i guess an easier answer would be the TPS (throttle position sensor), or most likely, a vaccuum leak. could be any sensor, valve, gasket, or hose that connects to vaccuum (the intake plenum) just start looking/replacing old stuff

Check IACV
Check FITV (under throttle body) this is the most common problem) if you remove from the manifold and shake it. If it make noise the white plastic piece has backed its self off. Simple fix.
Bleed Coolant if earlier than 96

usually it's number two if you have a 89-95 B series motor

If everything else checks out ok, don't forget the EGR. Dirty/sticking EGR valve can cause that.

I'll give you an idea of what I've done. I've checked and or changed the TPS, IACV, MAP, FITV, all vaccuum lines, wires, gaskets, you name it. Only thing thats odd is the fact that I have a '92 LS integra and it would have the same problem on the old LS motor before the b16. Thats why I figure map sensor, but all checks out. Thats the only sensor I haven't change but the VAFC gets a nice reading from it. Who knows, maybe its to slow-like a tired O2 sensor........

Try taking some starter fluid or brake cleaner and sprayin it in diff places around the engine bay... that's what I did. Turns out I was missing an injector o-ring The second we sprayed the intake manifold my car started spewing grey smoke.

my idle loops only if

a. it is cold outside
b I put the car in gear and then take it out of gear (Park to drive or reverse and then back to park)
c. step on the gas while it is not in gear.

In gear no problems

i had the same prob with my b16 del sol...i tried cleaning the tb, intake manifold resetting the ecu, adjusting idle. adjusting my timing and nothing worked. but the interesting thing was when i made a home made grounding kit (earthing kit) and grounded out my block head tranny alternator and ecu it stopped. its a perfect idle now in any condition. good luck with it cause it drove me crazy for months.

might not be grounded good. try to ground the head better and that might fix it.

a vaccuum leak is what causes that. could ur manifold be cracked?? vaccuum is leaking around a sensor, injector, hose, gasket, or seal. but a fluctuating idle isnt electrical. at least not in any case ive ever seen..... there are a lot more vaccuum spots than you think, if you think about it.

well it doesnt do it that much...just lightly...i thought it was because when the AC's on it idles higher..so since i dont have the belt it just idles up and down.....?

if that is the case why does it do it only when the outside temp is so cold?

it should do it all the time then if there was a vaccume leak? that has been my experience with cars...

you do know that turning on the power to the AC (not just the fan) when your belt is off will burn up your compressor, dont you?? if you do it to turn on the fan under the hood, you need to disconnect power to the compressor.

Maybe its because the leak is so small that when your engine warms up it expands, and seals it.

I have a buddy with the same exact problem. The car got into an accident and the TPS got busted. I switched it out yesterday and when you do the gear to part then the idle goes from 1000 to 1500 so then you have to turn it off real quick then back on and its fine. this also happened when I put my ITR TB on. The TPS on that got busted too and I switched it out. I think that adjustoing the TPS is the fix. I still have not had luck with getting a voltage reading from the TPS using the helms method.

Anyone know how to adjust TPS reading easily?
