You guys ever seen or heard of an A/C Compressor leaking vaccum/pressure? My old compressor's clutch doesnt work so I bought a used compressor. I hooked up the lines and went to draw a vac and wouldnt hold vac. I thought it was the O-rings so I changed em and cleaned out the holes really good but it still leaked. I took the lines off the new comp and put them on the old comp and no leak. I cleaned out the holes in the new comp, replaced the O-rings yet again, and still no seal. I mic'd the ID of the comp holes and they are the same size. I dont get it. I think the comp is leaking elsewhere. Any ideas?

 

Swap the clutch/coil to your old compressor and use it as long as it will turn.

 

Good idea. I dont have a clutch holder but it gives me an excuse to buy more tools.

 

Screw the clutch holder. I put the pressure plate in a vise upside down and was able to remove the bolt. Took only about 30 mins to swap the clutch/pulley. Thanks for the idea man!

good to hear you fixed it up and if it makes you feel better, i have seen a compressor leak. dye tested my system and found the compressor leaking between the two halves, was told it was pretty much non-salvageable at that point.

 

I replace 2-3 leaking A/C compressors a week, [case leak] and replace the front seal on 2 or 3 more a week, front seal leaks are easy to fix, [once comp. is out of car and you have the correct tools].
You already know swapping the clutch and coil is not hard, also made easier with the proper tools, you did luck out, [if comp. is working] getting the clutch gap right.

Have you put your old clutch back on the "new" compressor and taken it back for a refund yet?
If it is a case leak it is not reparable, it needs a complete rebuild, not something easy to do. 94
