Kaaz or Quaife?
I have a Kaaz lsd from a GSR tranny that I just bought. The Kaaz need to be rebuilt and the cost is half the price of the quaife. Which one performs better for drag racing. What are the pros and cons on them. I want something that will last but don't want to break the bank.
Quaife is definitively better. Sorry, no pros and cons.
I believe they are both cluch type LSDs. Quaife is definitively better. Sorry, no pros and cons.
technically speaking, a clutch type limited slip will have superior function to a geared ATB. I have no direct experience with either in any of my cars, but I have driven a Kaaz equipped vehicle and thought it felt great. Many S2000 owners swear by them over the stock Torsen. One downside though is some small additional noise, which is especially noticable on fwd vehicles.
From my understanding: With Kaaz, you have to drive in figure-8's for 30min to break it in and you have to change the fluid every so often. With Quaife, you just slap it in and go forever.
I have no experience with either, but I know where my money is.

I never had bad experiences with the KAAZ lsd, however I know other people have.
Anyway, I use their products and prefer it over the geared type ones... but the clutch binding is not for everyone, however it will out perform the Quaiffe or ITR LSD as I have experienced both.
The clutch types are generally the best, look at mugen and spoon who sell race parts for honda cars, they both made the LSDs clutch type.

I cracked the kaaz open last night and found that the spider gears were broken. The clutch plates don't look worn to me. I call kaaz today and they told me that the ealier units that they made for honda/acura vehicles sometimes had that problem. He said that they recently made better spider gears for the unit. I'm going to send it to them to get it repaired and see how it will work for me. He told me that he would just charge me for the gear and replace everything else in the unit for free, no labor charge too.
One other question, how should I set it up. Should I have it lock up at 100% or should I allow some slip in the LSD. What would work best.

what style of racing ? 100% is pretty hard, gotta have some play in there if you're doing any sort of curve racing or stret driving at least do the 1.5 way lockup.

I've had both..KAAZ and now the Quaife...
for my own purposes, I prefer the Quaife
But I side with Cheetah and must say the KAAZ is superior in performance to the Quaife.
The downside is its expensive oil appetite and frequent need to change it. The Quaife also weighs more than the KAAZ.
It's by far the heaviest unit if you compare ITR vs. KAAZ vs. Quaife.
But Quaife you can use "cheap" Honda MTF or in my case GM syncromesh and never worry about breaking it.
For my purposes, mostly being on the street, Quaife was my choice because I could never put the KAAZ to good use without endangering the lives of others....hehe...

440cc inj. and hondata soon.
What about the ITR LSD?
If you are going to be happy with 250hp or less then I would say get the ITR unit.
