to change that tranny oil! here is some Honda MTF after 30,000miles of love. I'll be changing it more frequently now, and will run a magnetic drain plug now too.
someone on here recently mentioned every 10,000 miles. thats interesting - i've never heard of a magnetic drain plug. whats the scoop on that? like where do i get them/are they effective/any negatives?
thanks
thanks
magnetic oil drain plug and tranny drain plug pick up all the metal schareds from lets say grinding it once somethime. this prevents it from going thru your tranny further damaging it. it also attaches to the plug so you can see that there are metal shavings in the tranny.
i've heard of them, but the only ones i can seem to find are the Spoon, and i know there has to be something cheaper around, what do you guys use? or were do you get them?

Fram I believe makes them. So Napa, Shucks, most automotive places should be able to order.
Wonder is OE honda makes em'?
I change fluid every 10-15K BTW.

IPS Racing has them for $35...ah well. It's probably the only spoon thing I'll buy
(okay forgot my ****)
I'll change mine every 10 or 15k now.

most parts stores have magnetic oil pan drain plugs for hondas for around $3 (do the same thing as a $45 spoon) but make sure you use a aluminum crush gasket on hondas, not the neprine that comes with the plug. A tranny magnetic plug really isn't nessesary considering, the tranny already has a pretty big magnet in it stock.
yah tranny has huge magnet... MTF fluid is 90wt gear oil, and a manual transmission, your not using the fluid to actually transfer toruqe in the torque converter like on an automatic (lots of energy, lots of heat) All it does is just rolls around... doesnt break down due to high heat or extreme working conditions.
But it definitly doesnt hurt to change it whenever u have time, but you just dont need to.

ummm, honda trannies usually use 30 weight oil, not 90 weight gear oil... if i recall, when my clutch was done, mobil 1 synthetic 10w30 was used.
Not all honda trannies have a magnetic drain plug. mine isn't.
I'd stick with Honda MTF for fluid. I've only heard about 1000 different opinions on what else to use, but there is one I KNOW is correct - Honda MTF
