Default installing new rings with engine still in car.

im gonna be doin piston rings next fri on my sohc crx engine. im just gonna pull the head and oil pan and leave block in car. im doin it on a lift at my job so the bottom will be easily accessible. i plan on re using the stock rod bearings since there should be no problems with them , the question is. im gonna use a bottle brush hone and very lightly hone the cylinders just enough so the rings can seat but i will stuff rags down ea cyl when i do it but some dust im sure will fall down through. if i really thourougly clean it all out with brake cleaner when im done it should be ok right? ill soak it all and then use air hose to blow it all dry. then pour some new oil on everything to lube it. this should work ok right? also when i use the bottle brush hone should i just smear some engine oil on the sides of the cyl walls to hone it , will that be ok ?

Yes that will be ok. I've put new piston rings into engines before that are still in the bays and the best thing you can do to get rid of the thin metal shavings is spray brake cleaner down on each cylinder wall and with a rag clean it up. Do this a few times to completely clean the walls nice and fine.

When honing, you are supposed to use machine oil on the stones and cylinder wall

Then after that's done, just lube up the walls with wd-40 and the pistons will slide in fine.

you can pretty much use any motor oil you want...any mineral oil should work fine or if companies make oils specifically for this process buy that instead...anyones input?
