Idle Questions...
I have a Civic EX, after putting on I/H/E, the idle is crazy... or maybe i messed it up... i dont know. anywho, the timing is at 13', and if the idle is too low the exsaust rattles, and if its at 650 (like it should be) it will jump up to 1500rpm and stay there even if i turn the car off. I have to reset the ECU to make it go back down, and then i have to turn the idle down to like 250. this is happening over and over again.... and it sucks. anyone have this happen? anyone know how to permanantly fix the problem? thanks
when you say "13'" do you mean 13 degrees. cause if you are that is really set back for the mods that you have?
put it back to stock timing and your problem is solved........

no i got a repair manual from HONDA, and it said, 12' +/- 2 degrees BTDC, so when i got i dyno'd they tech there played with the timing a bit, and set it to 13, and 14, and at first it was at 11 (from the facorty). So 13 pulled the best, and its in HONDA's specs. So that can't be the problem.....
then it could be your idle air control valve...you throwing and codes???
try set your idle back to 450+/-50 which is stock.

(stock idle is 670rpm +/- 50 rpms for a D16Y8) and if it's at 450 the exsaust rattles when the ac is on. also when i put on the brakes it rattles. i checked the hangers, and all that so the exsaust is secure. However, when i got a code, i took it to honda, and they said it's just the idle is too high.. (well no kidding! it was at 1500rpms) but it went to that range by itself. Here is what happens: i drive, (with AC on) and put in the clutch... as soon as that happens the rpms drop to almost 50... causes violent shaking-- when the car idles at 450-500rpms. but when i have it set at like 700rpms or a little less and i put the clutch in, the rpms stop at 1000 then go back up to 1200 then they stablize at like 700rpm. which is what i want. however about 3 times a week it will go up to 1500rpms and stay there until i reset the ECU and set the idle back to like 200... so i was thinking i must be running REALLY lean at that range for the engine to drop like that... on the DYNO i was running... oh.. 18.00 until like 2000rpms. so it must be much lower down under 1000 rpms.. i didn't get a reading for idle. could fuel shortage be the cause? or a vacume leak? because the idle drops quite a bit when i put the brakes on, but when i pump the brakes it makes it go back up... ?? (from now on when i buy a car... it is staying all stock) i dont know if any of that makes any sense... but it's a try.
