Default IACV questions

I have a 95 DX hatch w/b18b swap. Been having jumpy idle and staying around 1500-2000 then when warm around 900-1000...checked everything out, cleaned IACV screens but still the same. I read that when you unplug the IACV with car running the idle should rise but when I unplugged mine the car died down to 200rpms and almost like it's about to die..so I figure the IACV is bad so to avoid any check engine lights I put two strips of tape over the two holes on the IACV, plugged it back in and adjusted the throttle body screw to the required 650-750 idle...is this fine to run it this way? Is my IACV indeed bad?

Sounds as though the IACV is bad. But that could be deceiving. Make sure the idle screw is adjusted properly, the fast idle valve is tightned (underneath the TB), and there is no bubbles in the water system.

If all else fails, replace the IACV.

HTH.
