and the damn thing is stalling when idling

can someone tell me some things to trouble shoot

Try turning the idle adjustment screw on the top of the throttle body a 1/4 turn at a time to see how your idle changes. Maybe a 1/4 turn clockwise or counter-clockwise should be good. I can never seem to remember which way increases and which decreases idle. But give that a shot first before anything.
