How to remove alternator in Civic with B16?
My alternator bearing are going south.
First it was a light whistle that one could occasionally hear, but now it's getting much worse, so it's time to replace those bearings.
However, it seems a bit hard to pull out alternator without moving engine, etc.
Car is '97 Civic (6th gen) with B16A2 swap and it's pretty cramped there where alternator is.
Can anyone tell me what do I need to remove, and what's the easiest way to pull alternator out?
Tnx.

Well, I've been searching... so it seems there are few options:
1) Remove left axle pull it down
2) Remove shielding from dirt on left side arround wheel, an pull it through there
3) Unbolt brake cylinder from brake booster, and pull it through that side
Seems like nr. 3. will be the winner here... as seems like least work

Yup...had to drop 3 of my 4 mounts for just a little D-series to get booster and MC in there.

you dont have to pull the booster. I have a b18c in a 97ex. I just took of some little things like vaccum lines and I took off the whole alt mount to get mine out. Much easier than the options you stated.

Go out and take a look at it, you should be able to do it like I said. I think I took off a little metal bracket on the driver side, the vaccum hose off the mani, and the whole bracket for the alt and that was it.
I have the same problems - bearings are going out. I have two options, I figure - pull it out and fix the bearings (is that possible?) or order a used one, as the new ones are too expensive. Anyone know of any way to fix the thing without ordering a new one?
There are shops which can replace bearing.. they just dismantle alternator, replace bearing and put it together.
This is also good time to check if alternator's brushes are good too.
