Default Alternator Replacement? easy or hard to do?

Well my alternator just died. I guess it was about due with 146K miles on it.

My question is... is this something that can be done without remove/disconnecting the drive axle? I know the book says to remove it.

If it is necessary to remove it, then I don't have the equipment and it will go to the shop.

I figure that I would ask here to see if it is possible to do without removing the driveaxle so that I can do the job myself. Any insight would be appreciated.

Also, does anyone know if the alternator is used on any other Honda's. Reason is that I have a honda dealership close but the Acura dealership is like an hour away.

Thanks for any information.

You will have to remove the wheel axle to remove it. Have the shop do it.

you must have removed something, I'm pretty sure the alternator will not physically fit between the axle and firewall below, or between the firewall and intake manifold above. It's just too cramped. I removed the axle and center halfshaft, not too hard.

No..it is not absolutely necessary to remove anything..it will come out with a little bit of jiggling about, i replaced mine a while back and managed to get it out (from the underside) without removing anything, i also managed to get the new one in, and bolt it up without removing anything, although it would have been a hella lot easier if the drive shaft were not in the way!
