Default how to measure cyl. walls?

Is there a way to measure the cyl walls to see if they are out of round. I would like to put some pistons in std. bore into my block that has 145k miles. but if i take the head off and the walls are out of round I am going to over bore to 82mm thanks Luis

there are a couple of way, the most exact one is with a machine but it's very costly due to the cost of the machine, another way is to measure the bore at several points and see if is out of round.

you would need a dial bore guage, inside mic, or snap guage. any of these can be rented at some parts stores, but having 145k on motor you would be very lucky not to need a rebore. After you rented the tools and had the walls fresh honed to seat the rings ,it would probly be cheaper to just have overbored anyway.

i would just get it bored and honed to 82mm, if your gonna buy aftermarket pistons anyways. i don't know where you're loacted, but a machine shop that i often use only charges 10 bucks a hole to bore and hone.

Yeah with 145K your probably going to need it bored out anyway. If not use a T gauge and a mic. or dial bore gauge.

Yeah, every bore gauge I've seen looks like a little T, like a little pair of telesocopes.

If you want to measure taper and such you will need a dial bore gauge like these, they will tell you tell you down to .0001 how far out you are. Then oney you guys are talking about are good for measurement in 1 spot at a time where as this one you slide up and down and watch the gauge.
These are 1000.00 plus gauges

You mean 1k for all those gauges or just the two dial bore gauges?
