Default hone or bore?

hello i have had some wiseco pistons that i baught from a friend for a while, i just took my pistons out of my car and just found out that these wiseco pistons are 81.5 mm bore, and my block is stock bore 81mm. Can i use the honing tool to get .5mm out? Please dont tell me to take it to a machine shop, i would like to do it myself, i just need some straight forward advice.

dont hack it. have it bored to the proper dimensions with proper PTW clearence and then a light hone for the rings to seat properly.

i know i am being lazy though, i really dont want to take out the whole engine and strip the block to take it to a machine shop. i just want to take care of it myself. is there any way to bore your own block .5mm?

to answer the question, yes there is. to have a perfect straight top to bottom bore in the car? no.

you will be removing alot of metal to go that .5mm it doesnt sound like much but thats 0.020"

and you want all that crap dropping onto your crank shaft?

the ONLY way to do it right, is pull it, send it to a shop, bore it close, and final hone with a deck plate to the proper bore to make your p-w clearance right.

you WILL NOT remove enough metal with a ball hone a,d wont get any where near the consistency needed from a 3 stone and a drill.

im not saying that you cannot re ring a car with a ball/3 stone hone. just dont want to try to bore an engine 0.020 over with one.

Sell the 81.5mm Wiseco pistons and buy some 81mm pistons.

yea i already started to take off the axles so i can take the engine out and build it right.the shop said they will charge 150 to bore it and 85 an hour to assemble.. but i think i am going to assemble it myself and just send them the block to bore and hone. but then i would have to buy new crank bearings. its all adding up..

dont be lazy. There has to be a perfect size gap of piston to wall clearance. if you make it to tight your engine will lock up and break stuff. if you to far gapped you will smoke like a train cause your piston rings will not seal.

BORE jobs usually Cost $75-80 for a 4 cyclinder. When it comes to engine work like this MAKE SURE ITS DONE RIGHT. our you are just wasting time.

and if you have that engine open replace all seals bearings, and gaskets. make sure your main and rod caps go back in order in proper direction. make sure proper torque spec's are used.

if you dont think you can afford all of that or dont understand it, wait till you do and can.

yea i have to tear it up, might as well replace the clutch, putin a type r oil pump, clean up the block, and install the pistons hopefully i will have it ready by late march, or early may. going for 450-500 whp. with a type r head precision 63 trim turbo 950cc injectors... i suppose that this is the most critical part... my first engine build so i may be a lil ignnorant on the subject. but its all good.

this really is the best way to go man. i was worried for you in your other thread that said you had pistons already. if you had 81mm pistons and for some reason your cylinders were out of round, you would've beens screwed. this way you get a good round cylinder bored to the proper PTW clearances.
