how long does an igniter last
i bought a coil and igniter for my gsr today because i didn't know which one it would be. i put in the coil and the car fired right up. it's got 120k on it. should i return the igniter and get my $80 back, hang onto it because i'll need it eventually, or just pop it in now and not worry about it for x amount of miles? how long do they last? do they go out for no reason, or if eveything is in good shape will they last forever? any benefit to putting a new one in, such as better spark? thanks! it's midnight and i have a bunch of stupid questions.
Pop it in now. What you can't get a feel for is if (and how much) the old coil degraded the life of the old ignitor. A lot of times, when one goes, it takes the other out with it (or it follows suit shortly after). And I'm sure you don't want to find out that the old ignitor is close enough to death that it is now degrading the life of the new coil...so just pop it in.
