Not so, "universal" dual core aluminum rads can be had for as little as $200, or a model specific rad can be moded to fit/mount ... http://shop.ebay.ca/i.html?_nkw=alum...2&_from=&_ipg= 94

Well you would have to find one to sit right behind the intercooler, under the support. That was my point, easier to run a 1/2 sized rad,

Nice wrap job!
Looks like you used a clamp up top as well?
You don't have to up top, just fold it under and wrap over it, it stays perfectly.

^ Yea, just fold/tuck it under and wrap over the fold, make sense?

yep. Got it installed tonight. I went cruising around with my ducting, no passenger headlight, fan switch jumped, and downpipe wrapped and temps hit 205 then dropped to 194. I think I'm on the right track.

This is so stupid. Looking at the physics of it, that little half pint radiator is the problem. I don't care how you slice it! That size is meant for a dinky 1.6L gas sipping 4 banger. And your doubling (if not more) the horsepower and expecting the stock radiator to keep up? Sorry buddy. Not gonna happen.

I'm sure the physics will fly over your head but try and follow along. Picture a boiling pot of water and a bath tub filled halfway of luke-warm water. Now consider that these bodies of water carries with it equal amounts of heat. Now why does one boil and the other doesn't? You got it partner! CAPACITY! The reason being that you don't burn you hand off when you stick it in the bathtube is that it hass so much more room to spread the heat around.

Your radiator is like the boiling pot of water. You need to increase the size of your cooling system. Hell it doesn't even have to be a radiator, just something to increase the cooling system size. Get a milk container, wrap it in duct tape several times, tap and loop it to your current radiator and watch your temp gague struggle to meet the halfway mark.

I beg to differ on the radiator being the problem. I know several higher horsepower Civics running the dual core half size. Now Mishimoto even has the triple core half size. Think a stock Integra radiator is full size but single core and look at how many people leave that in there. Capacity does help but I wouldn't recommend using a milk jug, hot water out of the facet makes those very flexible and easy to puncture or rupture.

Over my head? That is SUCH a complex concept that I can't even BEGIN to wrap my head around it. Thanks for your sincere and absolutely not condecending thoughts. I remember now, I still don't have the space to put a nice classy milk jug under my hood. People make this setup work and that's what I intend to do.

just stop talking. the radiator is fine. he just has a lack of airflow to it, hence why his temps dropped when he removed the headlight.

LoL, arm chair jockies! I tell ya! As someone previously mentioned, the size of the rad isn't really the issue. It's the intercooler blocking the flow or air to through the radiator.
When he gets an effective enough fan it will pull more air through thus lowering temps.
I'd also suggest just getting a new cap just in case.

yes but the fan shouldn't be coming on too often when you're driving.

Not true. Esp since there is an air blockage, then fan will come on whenever the car reaches X temperature(X is dictated by the fan swtich).

I have it hardwired on with key on and that seems to be working. I have a brand new 16 lbs Stant cap on there right now.

Right. I want to get a shrouded FAL or SPAL or something that will pull more air through the entire radiator.

I went through the same thing your going through in my turbo dc. A lot of people use the 13" spal and that seems to fix it. I ditched the half size and put a scirocco radiator under the core support and have no problems since.

Temps never exceeded 194 last night w no headlight and with the other fixes. Spal fan is on the list when I've closed on my new house.

Tuned some more yesterday and temps peaked at 205 after a 3rd gear pull up a long, steep hill.
