Default Homemade Thermostat?

So Ive been pretty pissed lately at my car, knowing its not its fault but the stupid 5$ dollar thermostats.

1st one broke in traffic awesome you dont even know.
2nd one broke going 70mph then popped the heater core hose, even more awesome.
3rd one half broke and caused half over heating.

So being sick of replacing them, and relying on a 5$ dollar part on a expensive swap. had an idea which I never heard of before but was thinking of making a plate to sandwich in between water neck / block, that I was thinking should block 1/4 to 1/3 ish of water flow.

I figure that the thermostat blocks at least that much, but at 1/4 blocked of flow it would be warm enough, its just been 30ish degree's in the morning and it never warms up

Thoughts / Criticism?

* and as a after thought, new head gasket, nothing is clogged, free flowing, it is thermostat failure *

Default Re: Homemade Thermostat?

Spend a little more on a thermostat and get a better one.

Using a "block off" plate will not work, the thermostat is "active", opening and closing as needed, [determined by engine coolant temperature], a "fixed" opening will not work. 94
