Default Reverse water flow through the block

Ok, i am using a golden eagle electric water pump kit with the idler block off plate... i had thought about reversing the coolant flow so the head gets the lower temp coolant first. my thought was to keep the head cooler, keeping down intake temps and helping prevent detonation... what do you guys think?

why be difficult setting that up? its a waste of time, there are plenty of cars going fast with the stock style setup.

i know, its not really even a hard thing to do, i just swap the pipes going into my electric pump

ah, well id just make a small plate with a properly sized hole through it... if not make a custom mount for the thermostat somewhere else along the cooling system (ive got frree fab work)

GM went this route with their '96 and up LT1 350 v8.It allowed them to bump the compression ratio and hp/torque.I would think the Honda would be a good candidate for "reverse" cooling. It makes more sense to cool the hottest part first. Not really sure why they started off cooling the block first, but I imagine it was when they went from flat heads (no coolant in the heads, valves are in the deck of the block) to overhead valves (before Honda). If the pump can be plumbed backwards and not just wired backwards I think it would be worth a shot.

yea, i can wire the pump either way and plumb the pump either way... im using an fittings but i cant figure out which size fitting to use

Check with GE if the pump is efficient in either rotation. Most pumps are designed to only pump in one direction. These guys were the pioneers of reverse cooling in domestics in the '80s. http://www.evanscooling.com/index2.html

actually GM did it in 92 on the c4 vette then 93 on the lt1 fbody. they didnt do it so they could bump compression. they did it because for some reason lt1's generated an unbeleivable amount of heat under NORMAL driving conditioins. and when raced got even worse. this was one of the issues they fixed with the introduction of the ls1 in 97. so in other words it was a bandaid more than anything else.

but in my uneducated opinion I think its not worth it on a Honda because hondas dont have a problem staying cool. reverse cooling is not a perfomance thing. ist a bandaid.

but i dont have to pump it in reverse... i can use it the normal way and just swap the lines. im ognna try it and see if it helps

It may have been a bandaid on the vette, but it has performance applications. If you can reduce the octane requirement at a set compression ratio you will make more power. You can think of increased octane fuel as a bandaid also.Go for it.Its not really reverse cooling. Its reversed the way its done now.

heh, i never really looked at it that way. i guess id be cooling it the "normal" way. im really just trying to figure out where to mount the pump.... and if i should shave/fill the holes and such in my engine bay

I thought of doing the same thing. I know of some V8 engine builders who do it with great results.
