hesitation and stalling?
I have a 2gen B16 in my 1987 CRX si. I am running it with a PR3 ecu. I have added two new O2 sensors, checked the ignition and static timing. Everything is good. I have no codes either. I have a new cap and rotor also.
My problem is when i am at a cruising speed and put the pedal to the floor quickly, I get a severe hesitation before the power comes on. After driving for a while and the engine heats up, the idle tends to be too low also, sometimes causing the engine to stall. I have a Cyberdyne A/F ratio guage and it goes full rich even on mild throttle positions.
I have a VAFC that I am going to add to this car, but I would like to figure this problem out first.
Please help as I am getting sick of this.

it may be your fuel delivery, yours is fuel injection right? ignition is a possiblity but if your cap and rotor, spark plugs, and wires are good you might be alright. check your idle when your car is warmed up only, you may need to adjust it if it's too low.
I am confused as to why I am running rich also. I have 36 psi at idle of fuel pressure. My idle is a little low, but i have tried to adjust it higher and it doesn't go up much.
I have now found that i do have a very small coolant leak out of my idle control valve on the back of the intake manifold. I am going to fix that tonight.
My sparkplugs though are a light reddish color and I think that it means i am getting good combustion.
I tried to find a vacuum leak on the manifold and fuel rail area including the throttle body, but I can't seem to find any leaks.
HELP!!

Does it smell like it's running rich at idle...?
Is there any black (carbon) coming off the back of the car, when you wipe it down...?
Have you tried cleaning out the passages in the Throttle Body and the IAC. One of them could be semi clogged up, not letting enough air pass through.
Anytime there is a vacuum leak in a Honda, it will tend to speed the idle up, or make it un-controllable. Due to the fact the MAP sensor would see more air moving through the sytem, from the leak. Telling the ECU it needs to increase the injector pulse width, to compensate for it. "I" would tend to think the prob is else where in the system.
Try here for some ways of trouble shooting...

i have th e same prob b16a2. running with chipped p30..running typ er injectors and fpr set at 38 psi connected..timing set at 16 degrees y comp ratio is around 12:1 so i think this kind of setting fuel taht is is just right but i seem to be running very rich cause evrytime i rev and shift at around 8000rpm black smoke puffs out( tahts wat my friend says) and my plugs are very black on the side but on the electrode its kinda brownishny red.. how come help me out guys? should i set the fuel pressure lower ? cause i get ping/knocks already with a 38 psi setting...
the problem here is that i really get a bad hesitation if i stepped on the gas pedal from 1500rpm until 4000rpm will have a bad hesitation until the vtec kicks in at 4400.. i really hate this hesitation problem help me guys...

FYI: Type R injectors are the same 240cc that regular B16's have.
I don't have any black smoke or deposits on the back of my car.
I am going to try pulling of the IAC and cleaning that out. I will let you know my results.
I do notice that my throttle plate binds slightly when closed. hmmmm.
It is clean inside too.

r you sure?
jdm itr injectors? ohh ok.. how come my car gets a rougher idle and lower idle when i use the itr injectors and runs smoother on idle on the b16a's?

Might check the cams/crankshaft alignment, having one tooth off on any given cam, will throw the timing out around 18 degrees, or something like that.... hehehe
did that already.. hmm but my car pulls very strong in 3rd gear.. i mean very very strong..but the 1st gear is kinda boring if u know what i mean.. i just hate the hesitation it does when i step on the gas from idle..damn it man.. i need explanation its like im running rich but i dont think im runnin rich..help!!
Na, thats just some of the additives they put in the gas now days, that tends to turn "everything" a redish color...
I put some 91 octane in mine by accident (the pump was marked wrong). When I pulled the plugs, they came out that color. However, using 93 has never done that tho...
Might try going over all the grounds, also making sure there is good contact on both battery poles.
