HELP!.....went through a puddle and the car shut off
just what the title says i was driving on a back road in third gear doin about 30 (not on the throttle) and immediatly my car shut off. At first it turned over a little bit but still wouldnt start, so i waited for a little while and tried again. It kept turning over less and less and now after letting it sit for about 12 hours it just clicks. I took the spark plug out and u can see water inside. Is there anything other than hydro locking it could be? Also if the engine is locked will my warranty cover it? BTW my car came with the aem cold air and it is warrantied. PLEASE HELP!!!!
Take all your spark plugs out and turn the engine over. Your battery is probably dead from you cranking on it so long. After you turn it over a few times and get all the water out, make sure your plugs are dry and reinstall them. Try to start it again. If it doesn't work, you probably hydrolocked your engine. You could have bent a rod, broke your crank, or any number of other things. I would be very suprised if your car was under warranty for this, because if you didn't have a CAI it probably wouldn't have happened.
Warrenty will not cover hydrolocking with an AEM CAI. Recharge your battery, next time if you engine does this then don't keep cranking it over like you just did, its not good for the starter. Follow the instructions Pat gave you.
Please don't tell me you took your splashguard off from your wheel well?

It came from the dealership w/ the cold-air intake and they agreed to warranty it? I hope so, because it sounds to me like you just sucked a lot of water into your motor. Best of luck, chances are the dealer will deny any responsibility for this, but don't let them screw you if that's how the car came new. If it came that way used, you have a problem.
well i tried that spark plug method and its to the point where it wont turn over at all. Ive tried recharging the battery as well. My guess is im screwed. But yeah i did buy the car with the cold air aem on there and i asked the dealer if it would be covered under the warranty and he said yes. hopefully they will live up to what they told me. thanks for all your help, if there is anything else i could try please let me know
If you want to try and screw the dealer, put the stock airbox back on there. Although not honest, it could save you a fair amount of money in the end. It's a moral decision....

If you put the stock box back on, how would you possibly be able to claim the engine is hydrolocked? The dealer's mechanics can't possibly be that stupid. Then you will be caught lying, thus lessening your chances for any recovery. If they said they would cover the CAI and you are lying, you have lost what is referred to as "clean hands." You'll never recover. Take the car back to the dealer and make them live up to their agreement.
