Default Help Vtec Sputters

Yea I just got my engine installed and I know that I have a bad tp sensor because it idles up and down. When the vtec was connect I noticed that when I slowly went into vtec it sounds kind of weak like it's lagging. When I'm guning it I noticed that the vtec kind of sputters, like it's turning on and off. I was told that It's because of my spark plugs and the spark plug wires. HELP!!!

I have the same problem about a month ago. Mine was from the VTEC oil pressure switch. I used Crome rom editer to disable the OPS, now run fine. Try that

you changed your oil and oil filter?, I'm assuming if you're not throwing any codes that would be the problem to the vtec oil pressure switch turning on and off, happened to me so it's worth a try

Yea I don't have any codes and the vtec sputters when im going both slow or fast. The oil was change less than a both ago, so I don't know if that's it but Ill change it anyway. It didn't start sputtering until I ran it hard one night. Now it lags like crazy and I hear it popping like crazy.

Anyone know? I just chanded my spark plugs/wires and the distributor rotor still know luck. I don't think it's the oil because the oil level is good.

Problem solved bad distributor coil. It was ruin because I had a cut in my old spark plug wires and it was grounding with the valve cover.

This a just a thought but I know on my B17A1 which is OBD1 my VTEC will not engage at part throttle. So my guess would be your faulty Throttle Position Sensor is skipping in its voltage signal output or surging causing your VTEC to engage and disengage and what not... I would check that before checking your oil pressure switch since it is already a problem that needs to be addressed anyways...
