HELP!! electical problem on my 92 hatch
my whole dash harness fried up, most of it completly burnt, so i replaced that and my car still would not start. it turns over but doesnt get a spark, like something wrong with my distributor but i dont understand why it would be that when it was wires. i am completly clueless on what to do. please somebody help me or give me advice. thanks
ECU needs engine running signal from distributor to send out spark signal to ignitor and to turn on fuel injectors.
The ignition switch needs to power the ECU relay, Fuel pump relay and power the ignitor and coil. If any of these wires are broken nothing's gonna happen.
When you first turn the ign switch on, the CEL should come on for about 2 seconds. You should also hear the fuel pump buzzing for 2 seconds.
If you crank the car before the 2 seconds are up the light should go off, indicating that the ecu got the engine running signal.
that's a start

thanks for the info, from what you said i notice that my fuel pump didnt buzz when i turned on the key also my cel didnt turn on at all, just my brake light and that oil light whenever i turned it on but no cel. i dont know why both my fuel pump and cel isnt turning on. i replaced the wires, but it seems like my remote start alarm has something to do with it too because there were some wires that were spliced onto the harness. since you said if there wires are broken nothing is gonna happen so can u tell me where are these wires at, you know the fuel pump relay ecu whatever is the problem??
i don't know what color they are off the top of my head, but the main relay (that turns on the ecu and the fuel pump) is located under the steering column. Take out the plastic kick panel under the steerng wheel, the take out the metal panel and you'll see it. It says "mitsu"-something" and some numbers.
if you don't see any broken wires then you'll need a diagram, and you should get a test light or multimeter if you don't already have one to figure this out.
