Default help with clutch/tranny problem

tonight i was driving around when out of the blue my clutch pedal becomes useless

94 prelude si, bone stock, 150k mi...before this happened i had noticed it was a little hard to shift gears...not bad, but worse than my other honda's

so here's the deal:
when the car is OFF, you can change gears just fine
when you push the clutch, it does move the slave cylinder, so that is working...
when the car is on, you CANNOT change gears. Its like the clutch pedal is not doing anything. when the incident happened, the clutch felt like it got really soft, and still feels this way.

i actually have a h23 tranny/clutch in my accord that i can use for the replacement, but just wanted to get an idea of what it might be. Its a lot more work to remove the one from my accord if I don't have to (ie its a minor thing on the prelude I could fix for little money)

thanks guys

Does it also work fine with the engine running?
It does sound similar to my overheated clutch ,

Sounds to me like the springs in the clutch disc center have come out. I have seen this several times on other models. Time for a clutch my friend.

well, when the engine was on it wouldn't shift at all....

but for some reason it went back to normal...so who knows

maybe something got in the clutch line?
