Default HELP! Cannot remove crank pulley bolt

I'm in the middle of a timing belt change today and I can't get the pulley off. I've stopped the motor from turning, but the bolt is frozen. I've already broken a 1/2" drive 17mm socket, so I tried a 3/8" drive 17mm socket w/ a 3/8" to 1/2" drive adapter, and I broke the adapter. I have no air tools and if want to go somewhere to use them, I'm going to have to reassemble the motor.

Please, if anyone has ANY ideas on how to get the crank pulley bolt loose, post or write me at iamn8@hotmail.com. I'm really desperate here. I took the day off to tackle this job so I'm going to be ILL if I don't complete it.

Buy a good quality 1/2" 17mm socket and get a 4 foot pipe to use with the breaker bar.

Go out and get a pulley puller. Dont try and use sockets cause it wont work. Just get the puller and follow the directions and you will be set.

GOOD QUALITY was the key. I used an impact socket and probably a 6 foot pipe on the breaker bar. Crank pulley bolt defeated! for you Spade.

I take an aluminum bar and pull off the dust shield on the tranny that covers the flywheel. Drill two holes in the aluminum bar then put a 12mm bolt through the bar into the back of the flywheel. On the other hole run a 14mm bolt into the tranny casing. That should be good enough to lock the motor into place. Once that is all set us a breaker bar and snap that mother ****** lose. Torque with it on too then be sure to take it off before starting ur car up... hehe Hope it works

Best bet is to borrow or rent a portable compressor and an impact. Then go in short bursts foward and reverse to break it loose. The four foot breaker bar is liable to twist the head off and then you are REALLY in for a fun job. Try some penetrant. At last resort use a torch to heat it, sometimes that will loosen it.

That happen to me too... my compressor couldn't turn the bolt...
had to go to a shop that works on BIG trucks.. they used some HUGE as gun/compressor to remove it... This thing was massive, I thought it was gonna take my car apart.
