how to remove crank pulley bolt
#2
same way you loosen every bolt.. well almost every bolt. counterclock wise. you have to find a way to hold the pulley so it doesn't spin. if you have an impact wrench that would work great. if not, you can have someone hold down the breaks while you try and loosen it. there's also a special tool used to hold the pulley in place. good luck

Its counter clock wise......
Lefty loosy, Righty tighty
It would help if you have air.
Its almost impossible using a rachet,
But with this, It comes right off
Edit: ah you got me by a few seconds
And ^^, Whats holding the breaks going to do?
Nothing. Not sure why you said that......

I have the same compressor, hahaha. Impact guns are really the only way to go. Holding down the brakes if the car is in gear should theoretically stop the engine from turning. Good luck with that, though.

my bolt on mine was stuborn, even with a big compressor and a 700lb craftsman impact gun the suker still wont come off. so i use this method that is useful for stuborn bolts. shoot it couterclockwise for a couple seconds, than shoot it clockwise right away, than repeat, after a few try the stuborness bolts should come loose. i use this when i take people's axle nut off, those are a bitch.

i made a small bracket that lodges in to the teeth of the flywheel, then bolts to the tranny. you have to take the flywheel cover off, but this is the best method if air tools won't work for you

Re: (aeon)
get a chain wrench and clap it round the pulley and let it rest against something while you get a breaker bar and kick the **** out of it
it helps if you are a bigger guy, all the weight you can get on it helps

what type of impact gun are you using?
that has alot to do with it as well because i put mine up to 160 psi and the gun isnt strong enough to crack it loose

I'm working on it, geesh, I'm not as much the forum ***** I use to be
I didn't exactly read much in the thread,
but some people put a large flathead screwdriver in between the flywheel teeth from the inspection cover underneath.
And I guess it works most of the time, I've never tried it though.

Re: how to remove crank pulley bolt (sik96teg)
on my gf's crv and my LS using all sorts of strong impact guns didnt break them loose. all sorts of holding tools and techniques didnt work either.
i ended up borrowing one of my old professor's 3/4" 20 lb (actual weight) impacts.
it sounds all weak, but as soon as u hit the trigger it breaks the bolt.

Re: how to remove crank pulley bolt (Spec R)
I just put the car in 5th gear w/ a piece of wood infront of the back tires. I then got a 19mm deepsocket with a 1/2 LONG extension to my wrench. I then used a 4 foot breaker bar and it came off like pie.

Re: (Yolandita)
You need a bigger impact gun... Borrow someones 3/4" impact. Or, this also works for me sometimes. Get some air hose that is really big, and make a short peice to attach to your normal hose. This makes that first impact alot stronger.
Good luck
