Head work
Has anyone with a SOHC Civic ever had headwork done? I have an 00' EX and it has all modified I/E/H and all that, and the speed shop told me to do some "head work" involving porting and polishing the head, and intake manifold; along with a "competition" valve angle cut. What is all of that? What are the pro's and cons? and they want 1,200-2,000 dollars depending on god knows what. They also said i can get up to 20 extra horses.... how does that sound? Are they B.S.'ing or is this really something i sould look into...?? How does all that sound? Anything will help!
Thanks!
Thanks!
20 is alot but the teen's can bee seen with head work... and no there are no real problems with reliability with head work unless you get into milling alot...
as my experience with D Serries engine . I did the head work by my self ,including ported, polished , 3 angle valve jobs and milling the head for compression spec up. Thats all gain arround 10 Hp from the standart head. But the pro speed shop always did the port jobs with CNC ,they'll make much more better than hand work (just like i ussually did). I think that ain't bullshit if they says arround 20 hp gain.

I wouldn't be paying $2,000 check http://www.portflow.com and get a ball park.
what shop ryan? (im in tucson)
dont spend no god damn 2000$ if your gonna spend that, spend 2500 and do a motor swap.
check portflow.com and email scott byars at collective racing. he has a good place that does alot of head work. http://www.collectiveracing.net

I agree. That's a crazy price to pay for SOHC head work. First of all, you can swap the SOHC head without even removing cams or adjusting valves. It takes a decent mechanic literally minutes to pull the head off. If you're familiar with torque specs, etc. Just pull the head yourself and take it to a reputable shop. Be careful though! There's a great shop locally that will do all that work for well under $1000, but you have to bring them the head.
No check it out, it's over at Superior Racing Development (in tempe), and they said it would cost "anywhere" from 1,200 to 2,000 (new gaskets, work on throttle body, intake, exsaust, and valve trim) so i got a price quote because i want to chop the project up into pieces, so just to do the intake, and throttle body is only 450.00+\- and that include parts and labor. I would do an engine swap to a B series, but by the time i do that i could just buy a 00' Si for the price of labor and everything else. And they have seen numbers up to the 20's in an SOHC engine after perfoming this.
