Default head gasket question

hey guys, i'll try not to make this post very long. i was having a problem with coolant overflowing back in august when i took my crx out on track. it's an 89 hf with a z6 in it converted to obd1. here's a link to my other thread last month: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=2055849

as the guy suggested in that thread I did a leakdown test and the coolant bubbled/expanded. that led me to believe there was a headgasket problem. so i took the head off and everything and was scraping the old residue off yesterday and noticed that the top of the cylinder jackets seem to have some buildup on them. i can scrape the deck of the block fine, but the top of the cylinder wall i can't seem to scrap with a razor. when i get to the part where the cylinders intersect i get caught on an edge of some carbon buildup i guess, but i cant really scrape it away and when i get to the thin parts it doesn't get any of it. i'm thinking it's because the outside edges of the walls are slightly higher than the inner part, but is this a problem and/or would it be causing the afformentioned overflowing?

i rebuilt the engine before i swapped it into the crx and the head was worked before i put it on, i gave the shop my block as well, but i believe he said he just cleaned and honed it. i do not believe the deck was worked at all

i really don't want to take the engine out, so would does anything about this sound amiss or should i not worry about it and go ahead and put the new headgasket on?
