Default Changing headgasket Question

Im fixing to change my head gasket and head bolts tommorow along with a bunch of seals and o-rings...question is ,do i need to have the head resurfaced even if it never got hot? I just noticed the coolant dissapearing and checked my spark plugs to find coolant on cylinder #1 plug....the car would sometimes sputter on start up and smell really sweet like coolant ....

BTW: I completely cleaned the head and block surface to a shine and plan on using copper spray on the gasket

Check it for warpage using a straight edge and feeler gauge. If its in spec clean it up and you should be ok. However, if I was taking the time to pull the head and it was my own vehicle I would probably deck it for peace of mind. But if money is tight, like i said, you should be fine without it.
