81 civic head gasket problem
Hey guys, i recently got my 81 to work again by having the carb rebuilt and it all ran fine till it started to shake violently and lots of white smoke blasted out of the exhaust. When I checked for problems, i saw the coolant levels were very low and bubble sounds kept going for about 5 mins after shutting the car off.
I believe my head gasket has gone once again and causing coolant to mix with the oil and causing a oil leak somewhere too since I saw oil dripping from under the cat and heating up my center console/shifter/ebrake area.
How much should it generally cost to replace a head gasket? Or what other problem could this be? I had the head resurfaced last time i had a head gasket problem but i guess the mechanics didn't do a good job...
sorry for the long post.. im stumped once again on this 81.

Re: 81 civic head gasket problem
i bought a 83 with 1.5 CVCC with the same problem, they resurfaced the head and block causing more compression and valves started to nick up the top of pistons. If the head and block are true you can buy a head spacer that brings it back to OE spec. I also bought ARP studs because you cant find original head studs that are new anymore. Put it all together and is working fine. Just need to convert to weber carbs. But the main thing is that the head and block are not warped, new studs, and spacer.
