Default getting ready to hot tank

ive got the block fully disasembled, except for the black box, water pump, thermostat, and that long black tube which connects the waterpump to the thermostat. my question(s) is, how does that black tube come out? it seems as though it is one with the pump and thermostat. also, do i need to take out the freeze plugs for hot tank prep? help a newb out, thx.

There should be a bolt holding it to the block and then just an o-ring. You can wiggle it out but check for rusting and replace the o-ring.

it doesnt matter if you leave them in or take them off. i'd leave them on, get them cleand with the rest of your block.
