maybe because you get gas on your hands...

here's my theory:

The only time you smell gas is when your car is full. The only time your car is full is after you've gone to the gas station to fill up. At the gas station (unless you're from NJ) you pump gas. As you're pumping gas, gas may be getting on your hands/clothes/etc.

OR...

check your fuel lines. make sure they're clamped down, screwed on.

I can't think of any known problems. You'll just have to follow your nose to narrow it down and start inspecting from there.

mixture can be too rich depending on if you running stand alone. Check fuel lines and FPR, check diaphragm on FPR.

if you look in the haynes manual it says that if you overfill your tank at all you will smell a fuel odor...so its normal.

when you over fill your tank the extra gas go's into the charcol tank to be evaporated away.
