fully built rod knock???
i have a fully built b20/b16 motor and i was told that when u put aftermarket rods in honda motors, it gets a bottom end hollow knock sound. is this true or is someone b.s.ing me??? thanks
i think someone's confusing the knocking sound you hear from forged pistons. some forged pistons will knock until they warm up and expand.

Piston slap. Rods are not supposed to knock at all. If they do, there is excessive clearance in the bearings.

Someone is
'n you.
Even the old school piston slap is pretty much non existent anymore. Tight clearances in conjunction with new materials being used in aftermarket forged pistons. Makes it so that you no longer have to choose a piston that is smaller to ensure room for piston expansion. (piston Slap) A newly build engine should not have any knock, slap or tick.
Did you supply all the parts and bearings for the build?
Did you ask the shop to make a list of all the bearing clearances for future reference?

how fresh is this build and ddi you prime the motor with oil before starting it. if your not sure what i mean did you put oil in the motor and turn it over with a ratchet on the crank pulley bolt so the motor had oil through out it so you didnt risk a dry start cause if you didnt that could be how you got your knock. happened on a my friends built single cam.

My built motor sounds like a diesel all the time.

Piston slap and rod knock is totally different.
When you get rod knock.. that block is either done for or on its way out.
Piston slap is normal but can also be at an extreme where the piston to wall clearance is just way too much. That due to improper machining to match the specs of what that piston needs.
