fuel injector cleaner: any thoughts?
i did a search but it came up with nothing useful. Any thoughts on off the shelf fuel injector cleaners like "STP" or Redlines "fuel system cleaner"? Good/bad? What would be the best way to clean the fuel system? thanks

Teken is right.. TECHRON is awesome. Since I don't always have enough cash to do it when I want to, I just throw in some STP gas treatment every other tank or so..

Hey Teken. What is your opinion on BG additives? In this case BG44K? I have heard a lot of good about that brand as well.

Sure, heres the URL for their site: http://www.bgprod.com I don't know how they do things on the mainland but over here they have demonstrations and provide food and drinks for those interested in their products. The demonstrations are quite impressive from what I have been told. One example is their leak stopper product. They take a coffee can and have everyone punch a hole in it with a screwdriver or whatever and then they use the leak stopper to fill every single one of those holes. Well doesn't sound that neat in text I guess. One of those you have to have been there kinda things I suppose.

thanx for the info Teken and others, I've seen the pressurized procedure at the local Mr.Lube but not sure what sorta cleaners they use. I'll definatley check out canadian tire today for the Techron injector and valve cleaner and give it a try.

Pat Goss of PBS Motorweek mentions Techron and BG. Have not seen BG in store shelves.
Use Techron in Half tank of gas. Two treatments should do. Then use Chevron gas all the time. It has Techron mixed in.

This is hardly a scientific test, but I will share the results for what it is worh.
Larry (@ ENDYN) always raved about REGANE clearing heavy combustion chamber carbon deposits. Well in the last month I rebuilt the top ends of two identical 1997 GM Vortec 5.7 liter V8's.
Engine 1 Reganed twice, 48,000 miles combustion chamber & piston carbon minimal, just a light coating. In my book..."just right" Moderate soot in intake manifold around and upstream of the injectors.
Engine 2 NO Regane, 41,000 miles, combustion chamber carbon heavier than I would like. In my book..."needed cleaned" Moderate soot in intake manifold around and upstream of the injectors. (Intake identical with Engine 1.)
A friend with a stock 1996 Honda complaining of constant detonation under load. Told him of Larry's advice to run a tank or two of Regane thru it. I noticed that Mike hadn't complained for a month or so. Asked him about the detonation, he said: "Yea I forgot about it too. Don't know what happened either, but since the Regane it seems to be gone....yea, I haven't noticed any detonation.
Data presented FWIW. Please draw your own conclusions.

teken, do those shops let you buy the pressurized stuff? I've seen it used before, but wasn't sure if it was really available for DIY use or not. If you can buy it to use on your own do you have any idea how much it costs?

Re: fuel injector cleaner: any thoughts? (Tripz)
well, no chevron gas stations in Toronto, and NO chevron products on the shelf at canadian tire. However, there are ALOT of other stuff....STP, Motomaster fuel cleanser, CD2 injector cleaner, Slick 50 fuel system, Penzoil injector cleaner, Prestone fuel additives...etc..etc.
I think i'll check out the shops and see what sorta stuff they use in their pressurized/vacuum fuel system service... thanx again for the info
