Default Factory chipped PR4....?

I just opened up a PR4 to socket it. Low and behold there is a factory chip, resistor, jumper and caps where i would normally put there.... any ideas on this? Is this normal?

yep, some ecu's came with an external eeprom, like the p61

dos the chip have a copper colored sticker on top?

OMG if so you have a supa richard simmons map!!!!!! they work SUPER!!!

yes it does have a copper colored sticker on top. will i still be able to desoldier this chip and socket it? and can i use that chip as a basemap in the new socket.... providing its all cleaned up and what not

sure you can.
but to reprogram that eeprom you need a uv eraser

im not worried about reprogramming it. i was gonna socket it and run that same program for the time being.
