Everyone's thoughts on the potential of this LS/VTEC motor.
I'm not an expert or anything but $9400 seems an awful lot to spend on an engine. Have you ever given JG Dynamics a call? They make full, race built engines and they cost about $5000 and make alot more HP. I don't know but that seems logical to me.
Why not go for a Turbo setup. Your being charged too much, for half of that you could build a sleeved motor with pistons and a standalone, with the turbo kit . You could run 11's with that setup. There is a groupbuy going on a Darag 3 kit in Forced Induction forum.
84mm bore LSVTEC = CRVTEC. It's the exact same displacement.
That said, I'd look into how much it would cost to use a B20 block with the stock sleeves as opposed to a resleeved LS block. Here's my current CRVTEC short list (don't we all have one?
):
aem cai
jhp throttle
skunk2 intake mani
b16a head
jun2 intake cam
itr exhaust cam
skunk2 valve springs
skunk2 titanium retainers
jhp cam gears
b20 block
endyn "NA(low)" pistons - 'bout 12:1 CR
endyn piston rings
eagle rods
dc jdm 4-1
carsound 2.5" cat
custom 2.5" pipes w/ resonator & dynomax ultra flo
That right there should be good for around oh, 215-220 whp. And I don't think it'll cost $12500.

Also, it's been documented that in engines that run the LS stroke (ie. LSVTEC, CRVTEC, etc) the skunk2 cams are crap and the JUN2/ITR setup kicks a lot of ***. Lemme find that thread...

yeah that won't, but do you get a tranny, new axles, modified header, balanced crank, type R water and oil pump, LSD, Mugen computer, also, for the crvtec for 12500, you get everything, i mean everything......tires, the works.... it's a "COMPLETE" motor you just drop in and go......I will have to check out about the cams tho.......thanks for the input great help!
here's the problem i see with doing this kind of thing. you're buying it all at one time. i mean sure it's gonna be fast as heck and you're gonna roast alot of people, but what fun is it? you don't get to see the car get a little faster everyday, you don't get to see the car evolve, it's just slow and then suddenly fast and you're broke. not only that you will be feeling sick of the car after about 2 months of ownership. take it from a guy who built a 210 wheel horsepower ls/vtec powered crx. my car ran a 12.3 second quarter and it was fun and all for my daily driver, but the car was put together in a span of 3 weeks. i broke the motor in in less than a month (very expensive on gas
) and then ran a 12.3 the next month. i owned the car for about 9 months after that and i was bored as poo poo for the last seven. take it slow man, buy things one part at a time. either that or build your motor yourself on a motor stand. get what you can when you can and assemble it piece by piece. you'll get a whole lot more satisfaction from doing that than you ever will by paying someone else have all your fun.

So have importbuilders sell you a B20 block instead of a resleeved LS block. It's a whole hell of a lot cheaper and you really don't need to resleeve if you're staying N/A. $12500 seems like an AWFUL lot for just the motor. If you're talking about the total amount of money you're throwing at the car that's another matter entirely. That list of stuff I posted plus the actual cost of the block, head and trany comes out under $8000. You can't tell me that seals and bearings and all that other crap will be another $4500. With $12500 to build a 2.0-liter B-series you better believe I'd have ITBs on it.

I think that you are overpaying for that motor and the numbes it puts out IMO
